"Existen unos hombres en la huerta de Murcia que, entre las horas tensas de la media noche y las horas vírgenes de la alta madrugada, llevan en su voz la vieja canción de su fe".

What are "the auroros"?

Traditonally the people who participate in this type of singing are of the same faith and form part of the same religious entity. Early on sunday mornings, in their awqkening or night songs, they praise our lady with their singing and prayers, and manage to free the christians from the bad spirits with their powerful intercession.

Who forms the group of singers?

The singers, from the "huerta" in Murcia, group together in two choirs, depending on the antifonal style of their songs. One person in the first choir acts as a guide normally the one who uses the bell leads the songs and decides on the place and type of prayer to interpret. The number of members ih each choir is variable. Between both gruops it may add up to about thirty singers.
